RIC 2026 in Unlocking Industrial Competitiveness through Innovation and Regional Value Chain Integration

The Regional Industrialization Conference (RIC) was established as a strategic platform to advance structured, evidence-based dialogue on Africa’s industrial transformation, with a particular focus on East Africa’s transition toward competitive, export-oriented and value-adding economies.

Convened by the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) in partnership with regional stakeholders, RIC has evolved into a flagship policy-engagement forum that brings together governments, private-sector leaders, development partners and regional institutions around shared industrial priorities moving deliberately from agenda-setting to implementation.

RIC’s trajectory is closely aligned with the:

  • East African Community (EAC) Industrialization Policy (2021–2031),
  • The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),
  • Uganda’s National Development Plan and
  • Uganda’s long-term aspirations under Vision 2040

These frameworks emphasize value addition, industrial diversification, infrastructure development, technology adoption, regional market integration and private-sector-led growth as the pillars of Africa’s next phase of economic expansion.

The first edition of RIC (RIC2024), convened under the theme “Building an Industrial Landscape Focused on Innovation, Technology and Job Creation for Economic Growth and Environmental Conservation,” established a foundational case: that industrialization remains indispensable for economic transformation and that Africa can pursue climate-responsive growth through innovation, clean energy deployment and sustainable production systems.

Building on this momentum, the second edition (RIC2025), themed “Enhancing Policy Advocacy for Sustainable Regional Industrial Growth,” shifted the focus from justification to enablement. Governments, regulators and private-sector leaders committed to:

  • Accelerated EAC policy harmonization
  • Coordinated elimination of non-tariff barriers, railway rehabilitation and
  • Multimodal logistics development,
  • Digital enforcement systems to curb illicit trade
  • Mobilization of blended finance for industrial infrastructure.

RIC2026 marks a strategic progression in this journey. Convened under the theme “Unlocking Industrial

Competitiveness through Innovation and Regional Value Chain Integration,” the conference focuses squarely on execution:

  • Strengthening production ecosystems,
  • Accelerating technology transfer,
  • Scaling industrial parks and export zones, and
  • Operationalizing regional value chains that position East Africa as a manufacturing and processing hub within the AfCFTA market.

Why the Regional Industrialization Conference (RIC2026)

RIC2026 provides a timely, high-level platform to advance multimodal industrialisation priorities by

convening policymakers, investors and industrial leaders around actionable reforms and investment

pipelines. The conference is distinguished by:

  • Multi-stakeholder policy dialogue addressing trade barriers, standards harmonization, logistics bottlenecks, financing gaps and skills development.
  • Uniting EAC decision-makers across government, private sector, youth enterprises and development partners.
  • Action-oriented advocacy led by PSFU and regional business organizations to translate recommendations into formal policy engagements.
  • Targeted competitiveness conversations on agro-processing, minerals, manufacturing, green industry, SME finance and illicit-trade suppression.
